Overarching theme of the sermon:

The gospel itself – what God has accomplished in the death and resurrection of his Son – is the power behind Christian life-transformation. It is the gospel itself, mediated through the Holy Spirit, that brings peace in our church relationships – between the leaders and their flock and between all the members. Peace in the church demonstrates we are indeed a people morally prepared for the coming of the Lord.

Point # 1: Appreciating the shepherding task of church leaders results in love for them and peace in the church (12-13).

Point # 2: We should act toward one another in ways that make for peace (14-22).

a) Particular acts that result in Peace (14-15).
b) Particular attitudes that result in peace (16-18).
c) Diligence to discern the true work of the Spirit leads to peace (19-22).

Point # 3: God achieves peace in the church by sanctifying her, to preserve her completely and blamelessly at Christ’s coming (23-24).
