Jesus: the Melchizedekian High Priest

Main point: It was never God’s intention that the Aaronic priesthood last forever.

Hebrews 7; Genesis 14; Ps 110.

Point #1 Melchizedek and Abraham (vs. 1-10).

· Melchizedek is greater than Abraham

Point #2 The Mosaic Covenant will soon be obsolete (11- 22).

· “For on the basis of the priesthood the law [covenant] was given to the people.”

Point #3 The implication: Jesus is better (23-28).

· Jesus is a better high priest than Aaron because he is an enduring priest (23-25).

· Jesus is a better high priest than Aaron because he is sinless (26-27).

· Jesus is a better high priest than Aaron because his sacrifice is better (27).

· Jesus is the perfect high priest (28).
