Sola Scriptura: the Bible is the Church’s Sole, Infallible Rule of Faith

Our text . . . .
Mark 7:1-23 “Divine Authority vs. Religious Tradition”
Point # 1 The “traditions” Jesus condemns are those that allow people to sidestep what Holy Scripture authoritatively teaches (1-13).

We will look at Points #2 and #3 next week, when we look at Lev. 11.

Point # 2 In contrast to the traditions of men, and even the law of Moses, Jesus is the ultimate revealer of God (19b).

Point # 3 (14-23) Our hearts are defiled, and produce defiled works. That means we are defiled and need Jesus to purify us.

The “Five Solas” of the Protestant Reformation
1. Sola Fide: by faith alone.
2. Sola Scriptura: Scripture alone.
3. Solus Christus: through Christ alone.
4. Sola Gratia: by grace alone.
Soli Deo Gloria: to the glory to God alone.
