Living a Faithful Life of Gratitude and Godly Fear (Part II)
March 16, 2014 Preacher: Series: Hebrews
Passage: Hebrews 13:7– :25
Question # 1: How do we worship God by our life of gratitude and godly fear within the church (1–6)?
- We keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters (1)
- We are hospitable (2)
- We remember those Christians who are mistreated (3)
- We remain sexually pure, honoring marriage (4)
- We keep ourselves free from the love of money; we are content with what we have (5)
- We have confidence in the presence of hostility (6)
Question # 2: How do we worship God by our life of gratitude and godly fear in the unbelieving world (7–17)?
- We remember our past leaders and imitate their faith (7) and we obey our present church leaders and submit to their authority (17)
- Remembering that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we are not carried away by false teaching. Our hearts are strengthened by grace, for we have an “altar” (the many dimensions of Jesus’ death and all its benefits ) which is the source of the grace by which believers hearts are strengthened (8-10)
- We bear the disgrace Jesus bore as we look for that city which is to come (11-14)
- Through Jesus, we continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise by our bold, verbal allegiance (15))
- We do good to unbelievers and share with them (16)
Prayer of Blessing
20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The two-fold thrust of the author’s Prayer of Blessing:
- That God would equip Christians “with everything good for doing his will”
- That God would “work in us what is pleasing to him”
