"Fathers, Mothers, and Children”
Exodus 20:12; Ephesians 6:1; Col. 3:20-21; Luke 14:26-27
Point # 1: Honour your father and your mother (Exodus 20:12)
· To honour our father and our mother is to begin with recognition that our very existence is dependent upon them.
· The promise gives us a great clue as to at least one of the reasons why this commandment is so important: parents had an important role to play in communicating the covenant’s requirements to their children
· The commandment does not limit its applicability to only good fathers and mothers.
· To honor your father and your mother does not presuppose that at every stage of your existence you should obey them.
Point # 2: Children, obey your father and mother in the Lord (Ephesians 6:1; Col.3:20)
Point # 3: Hate your father and mother (Luke 14:26-27)
