April 29, 2018 Preacher: Alex Bloomfield Series: Sunday School: The Minor, Minor Prophets

Passage: Zephaniah 1:1– 3:20

Big Picture: Zephaniah declares that the Day of the LORD is near for all people, and urges the faithful remnant to patiently seek the LORD with humility. Zephaniah affirms that while God is alone the one who judges, he also is alone the one who redeems.

Summary/Outline

Chapter 1: The Day of the LORD is near! The Day of the Lord will be one of just covenant enforcement upon God’s chosen people (Mosiac lawbreakers) and all nations (Noahic lawbreakers).

Chapter 2: A call to repentance ahead of the Day of the LORD, which cannot be delayed. Humble yourselves and seek the LORD, and perhaps he will preserve you on that day! Take a lesson from the coming destruction of the nations around you, Judah, for they are no worse than you.

Chapter 3: The Day of the LORD comes even on the city where God dwells (Jerusalem). But take heart! God will choose to purify a remnant to survive this day of disaster and then rejoice with his people
