The key verse for the geographical spread of the gospel in Acts: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
1. The assassination attempt (23:12-35)
2. The trial before Felix (24:1-27)
3. The trial before Festus (25:1-12)
The trials before Felix and Festus (and then later, King Agrippa)
have a threefold purpose:
- Paul has the opportunity to defend himself against false
charges before the highest authority in the province, and
prove Christianity is no threat to Rome. - To continue his defence of Christianity before Jewish
opponents. - To bear witness to Christ before the two governors, thus
continuing to fulfill Jesus’ prophecy in Luke 21:12–13. “They
will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to
synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought
before kings and governors, and all on account of my
name. And so you will bear testimony to me.
