Flee Sexual Immorality, Glorify God With Your Body (Pt.1)

October 17, 2021 Preacher: Series: 1 Corinthians

Passage: 1 Corinthians 6:12–14, 1 Corinthians 15:50–58

Problem #4: (1 Corinthians 6:12–20) Some Corinthian Christians are excusing sexual immorality because it occurs outside the body.

Gospel Solution: Your body matters because God will raise it up like he raised the Lord. Your body is a “member” of Christ, so you should not make it a member of a prostitute. You do not have the right to do whatever you want with your body, because God owns it, and he owns it because he redeemed you at the cost of his Son’s life. So, glorify God with your body by not committing sexual immorality.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Point 1: Brothers and sisters, understand your Christian freedom – and keep that freedom in balance with the Lordship of the risen Christ over your physical body, which one-day will be resurrected (1 Corinthians 6:12-14)

  • The bodily resurrection of Christ underscores the sanctity and future of the believer’s body. In going to prostitutes, the Corinthian Christians are renouncing the lordship of Christ over their bodies and denying their resurrection life to come.

Point 2: The assurance of triumph (1 Corinthians 15:50–58)

  • Transformation must take place in order for believers, whether dead or alive, to enter existence in the new heavens and new earth.
  • When the transformation does take place, death is not only defeated, it is swallowed up in victory!
