Big Picture: Paul’s central desire for the Colossians is that they continue in the faith they received and reject the new philosophy (2: 6-8). They should do this because of Christ’s supreme authority and his dual nature of divine Son and resurrected man. (2: 9-10).

Why do these truths about the person of Christ demand our loyalty?

• Because by faith, we are united to this supreme God-man. (2:11-14)

• Because all other philosophies are rooted in shakier ground. (2:15-23)

• Because these truths put our earthly lives in proper perspective. (3:1-4)
