“Bearing Witness Under Persecution: The Good, the Bad, and the Forgiven”

May 12, 2024 Preacher: John Bell Series: The Gospel According to Mark

Passage: Mark 14:43–72, John 21:15–19

Big Picture: suffering persecution and Christian discipleship are tied together. In fact, it’s God’s
will for all Christians.

1. When Jesus was persecuted, he submitted to God’s will. So must we.

2. When Jesus was persecuted, he witnessed to himself as the Messiah and future divine
judge. So must we.

3. In contrast, when Peter was persecuted, he denied Jesus. So do we.

4. Peter’s reinstatement: a portrait of God’s gracious forgiveness (John 21:15-19)
